A job description does two jobs: it tells the right people to apply and it gives everyone on the hiring panel the same definition of the role. Both fail the same way — a description assembled from two older ones, where the responsibilities describe activities rather than outcomes and the requirements list is a wish.
Fill in what you know — the rest comes out as a labelled placeholder.
Nothing you type leaves this page: no account, no network request, nothing saved. Copy the text before you close the tab.
The sections a description actually needs
A one-line role summary that says what the role is for. If it could be pasted into another company's posting unchanged, it is not doing anything.
Outcomes for the first six to twelve months, written as things that will be true rather than things the person will be busy with.
Requirements separated honestly from nice-to-haves, the team and reporting line, the working arrangement, and how to apply.
Requirements, honestly
Every requirement excludes someone. That is the point, which is why each one should be there because the role genuinely cannot be done without it, not because it appeared on the last posting.
Years of experience are a weak proxy for nearly everything and a strong filter against people who did the thing faster. Where you can name the capability instead, name the capability.
A short, real requirements list with a longer nice-to-have list below it widens the top of the funnel without lowering the bar.
Before you post it
Read it as a candidate who is currently employed and only mildly curious. The first three lines have to survive that reading.
Check that the outcomes, the interview plan and the eventual scorecard describe the same role — a description that disagrees with the interview is worse than none.
Frequently asked questions
Does this send my draft anywhere?
No. The builder runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is saved, and closing the tab discards it. Copy the output before you go.
Should salary be in the description?
A range is increasingly expected and in some jurisdictions required, so check your local rules before you post. Whether or not you publish it, agree the range internally before the description goes out, because it is far harder to set once candidates are in process.
What does the full OGUM task add?
